Our Curriculum Overview

The ACE Approach

A = Active

Each Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) is a streamlined, essential document necessary for teaching and learning in all subjects from Grade R to 12.

  • Each subject has one CAPS document that provides details of what needs to be taught and assessed on a grade-by-grade basis.

C = Christian

The system integrates Biblical truths and Christian character values throughout the curriculum and in the daily operation of the school. The staff always try to lead the students to the knowledge of Jesus Christ and challenges each student’s Christian walk.

E = Education

Individualisation – The student’s needs are met at their personal level of ability.

Curriculum

At Vine Christian School we strive to educate all our learners without preference or prejudice regardless of social standing or exterior qualities.
Our dedicated staff love and treat all our learners as if they were their own children.
This we aim to achieve within a secure, caring and disciplined environment.

Vine Christian School Offers the CAPS curriculum which is short for Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS). CAPS form part of the National Curriculum Statement Grades R – 12, which represents a policy statement for learning and teaching in South African schools.

Christian education inspires academic & spiritual growth

A quality Christian school education goes well beyond the transactional, it is transformational. Research shows that a quality Christian education has a significant influence on the lives of its students. Christian school graduates:

  • typically outperform the majority of their peers academically
  • more generous in their giving habits and charitable acts
  • have stronger bonds and a greater commitment to their community
  • subscribe to greater biblical worldview practices

Foundation Phase (Grade R-3)

Our learning system from Grades R-3 focuses on competencies in knowledge, skills, attitudes and values. Our learning programs are interdisciplinary by nature, focusing on 21st-century skills. We aim to achieve the outcomes of the national curriculum acknowledging that each child is unique thereby embracing a range of learning styles to foster a sense of curiosity, creativity and a love for learning. Our Educators will involve your child in group-based learning experiences designed to monitor and report on your child's growth. There are ample opportunities for creative play involving free-form learning and project-based activities which are largely driven by the interests of your child to inspire their imagination. Learning progress is documented to help each parent understand the progress of their child.

Intermediate Phase (Grade 4-6)

Primary School at Vine Christian School begins in the Foundation Phase for Grade 0 to Grade 3, and continues in the Intermediate Phase for Grade 4 to Grade 6. We celebrate our strong Christian ethos, a heritage that provides a grounded foundation for innovative curriculum delivery which is fundamental in meeting the needs of every student in a constantly changing world. At the heart of our learning experiences is a focus on developing learning how to learn, and inspiring a love of learning for life. Academic rigour underpins the curriculum while creating diverse opportunities to explore an individual’s understanding of concepts, skills and ideas. We encourage active and committed participation in all aspects of the spiritual, academic, sporting, and cultural life of the school. Our emphasis is on identifying and developing the strengths of each of our students to achieve their personal best through the varied teaching and learning practices

Senior Phase (Grade 7-9)

Vine Christian School succeeds in delivering to society learners who meet these criteria - each young woman is supported in all facets of her development to achieve to her full potential. Learners are able to utilise their opportunities to contribute positively to the future of South Africa and the global society - they are highly skilled, behave ethically, are tolerant, service-oriented and mindful of the environmental needs for conservancy in order to ensure a safe and prosperous future for all citizens. As a faith-based learning establishment, Vine Christian School’s goal is to be an institution where high quality learning and faith are not mutually exclusive, but integrated the way our God intended. We therefore appreciate inquiring minds, the desire to create, freedom to explore, and the will to achieve order as expressions of God’s image within us. We seek to stimulate these internal motivational forces so that our students will find their educational experiences to be genuinely fulfilling.

F.E.T Phase (Grade 10-12)

At Vine Christian School, we focus on learning that is engaging, relevant, challenging, and significant. Our pedagogical approaches push beyond traditional subject-based teaching to innovative concept-based approaches. We aspire to bring relevance, authenticity, and connection to our students’ education to help them acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to succeed in today’s world. Our approach ensures learning has local and global significance for all students, in all cultures, and all places. Therefore, Vine Christian School has identified four academic pillars that visualise, describe, and enhance our offering of a dynamic, personalised learning journey for each student.
